            Abstract :
This paper presents a novel wireless integrated power management unit (PMU) for implantable biomedical telemetry systems. The PMU was fabricated in a 0.35μm CMOS technology occupying approximately 1×1 mm2. First, the presented unit can recharge implanted batteries via radio frequency power transmitted from an RF source. The charging voltage can be set in the range of 4.28V~5.3V for various batteries. The typical charging current is 200uA. Second, it provides on/off switching through external wireless control. Third, it has an ultra low standby current about 5pA. The size is reduced by a simplified control logic circuit and one inductive link coil to transfer the energy and data. The simplicity and modular feature make it a useful power interface designed for rechargeable battery-operated medical telemetry implants.
