Abstract
This paper focuses on the problems of parameter estimation based on the polynomial time-frequency transform (PTFT). The estimation performance is significantly degraded when multiple signal components are dealt with due to the sidelobe effects from each component. This paper theoretically analyzes the amplitude and sidelobe of the PTFT and applies the cleaning technique to minimize the sidelobe effect. The resolution of the PTFT is also analyzed for signals with multiple-components. Numerical results are presented to support the validity and correctness of theoretical derivation. Simulation results also show that the cleaning technique can significantly improve the estimation performance of the PTFT for signals with multiple time-varying components.
