Abstract
In the design of conventional motors that are generally used in home appliances, the basic design parameters are determined by experience. However, in hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) applications, considering the severe environmental conditions they may be exposed to, these design parameters may not be appropriate. In this study, four different parameters involved in motor design were optimized to improve the performance of the basic model. The parameters were the tooth width, the ratio of the rotor diameter to the inner diameter of the stator back yoke, the ratio of the rotor diameter to the stack length and the number of pole pairs.
