  • Abstract
The Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) using High Frequency Carrier gathers momentum with the utilization of high speed power switches such as power MosFETs and IGBTs and software based control using micro controllers and digital processors. This technological development paves way for development of an algorithm for PWM control of solid state inverter based motor drive, to generate raised sine wave (RSW) supply. This novel approach of operating an induction motor with RSW supply is presented in this paper. The analysis of operation of the motor, supplied with RSW power supply is carried out using standard mathematical simulation tools and the results are presented here. The motor characteristics with proposed RSW supply is compared with the operation under conventional sine wave (CSW) supply and the advantages and improvements are highlighted. Hardware implementation along with algorithm is also proposed. The algorithm is compared with various PWM schemes such as Sine-triangle PWM (SPWM), Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) implemented using micro controller / microprocessor based pulse generator. The AC fundamentals with sine wave operation is revisited and compared with raised sine wave operation.
