  • Abstract
A sensitive non-invasive detection method for blood glucose was proposed utilizing the optical rotation effect of glucose and Faraday magneto-optical effect. Based on the novel detection method, a detecting and controlling system was designed using Programmable System-on-Chip (PSoC). If polarized light was detected by the photodetector, system would increase the current applied to Faraday coil to reduce the rotation angle of light induced by the optical rotation effect of glucose. When the photocurrent of photodetector reduced to the threshold preset, it was considered that Faraday magneto-optical effect compensated the rotatory angle of light induced by the glucose solution. The current applied to Faraday coil characterized the concentration of glucose solution. The correspondence of the current of Faraday coil and the concentration of glucose solution was investigated with experiments based on the detecting and controlling system designed in this paper. Results indicated that the detection system can determine the concentration variance of glucose solution with a linear range of 75-500 mg/100ml. The research could provide a novel method for the non-invasive detection of blood glucose.
