Abstract
In this paper, we propose a kind of switching control technique aiming to improve transient response. The switching control consists of two sub-controllers which are designed to make the system underdamped and overdamped respectively. The switching law, which is inspired by the recently developed reset control, is determined by both the tracking error and velocity. The proposed switching control can achieve perfect transient performance. But compared to reset control, the proposed control imposes less structural constraints on the controller and thus provides more freedom in control design. In this paper, some stability results are obtained for the proposed switched systems. A heuristic design processes is proposed and applied to a kind of hard disk drive system. Simulations show that perfect transient performance is achieved.
