Abstract :
A classical solution to the problem of integrating multiple heterogeneous information sources in the framework of data bases systems consists in defining a global schema on which the local sources map themselves as views. This paper examines the application of USB smart cards with flash memory in the development of distributed and heterogeneous medical information systems. It highlights the benefits of combining the World Wide Web and USB smart card technologies to support the development of highly robust and secured health information system, while leveraging on the rich benefits of the Web technology. In particular, we describe an approach of using the Web USB smart card service model as a common interface to communicate and access the medical records residing in a smart card that seamlessly integrates to existing Web infrastructure. In this paper we present an approach for the integration of heterogeneous medical databases using semantic mediation approach based on ontology. The standard OWL language is used here as the ontology description language to formalize ontologies of local data resources and to describe their semantic correspondences in order to construct an integrated medical information system. We propose an architecture adopting mediator and wrapper for a mediation based on OWL. The initial implementation of the framework and development of a case example of a Web based medical information site have demonstrated the feasibility of concept of the Web USB smart card. In this paper we take the pathology of cancer for the case study. We identify the different actors and theirs access right. Finally, we examine a security policy of this system
