Abstract :
In this paper, we propose an experimental CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning) system named WMCO (acronym for Wiki-enhanced Media Clipping Organizer), which effectively supports language learners viewing video clips as resources for language learning. WMCO was designed by decoupling the system functionality into two parts: video player terminal and comment editing terminal, and the major characteristics is to let language learners select arbitrary scenes from a video clip being played on the video player terminal and manage the related information such as metadata, comments, and control user interface as wiki pages on the comment editing terminal. We developed a prototype system for the proof of concept, and confirmed the effectiveness of the basic design concept.
