Abstract
This paper presents a new design of low-profile high-gain resonant cavity antennas, that allows the reduction of cavity height to less than 0.5lambda0. The design is based on a partially reflective surface (PRS) and a standard metallic (PEC) ground plane. We show that the cavity height can be reduced by appropriately tuning the reflection phase of the PRS, without using a artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) ground plane. Theoretical and experimental results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the design scheme.
