Title :
Integrated parallel computing into a computer science curriculum
Author_Institution :
Allegheny Coll., Meadville, PA, USA
Abstract :
The author discusses an on-going curricular change at the Department of Computer Science of Allegheny College, the integration of parallelism into the curriculum. After carefully considering ways of modifying the course offerings to include parallel computation, the decision was made to integrate topics in parallelism into appropriate existing courses in the curriculum. It is believed that this approach is pedagogically sound since students learn and use several different machines and languages over the course of their studies, ensuring that they have a greater opportunity to utilize their knowledge. This approach also allows faculty members to concentrate on those aspects of parallelism that are within their own areas of expertise
