  • Abstract
HUE (the Handwriting Understanding Environment) is a software framework for handwriting and document analysis built around a two-level programming model in which components are implemented in a system programming language (typically C++) and are connected together into prototype systems using the scripting language Tcl Tk. HUE is an extended version of TABS (a previous handwriting analysis framework), and incorporates the authors´ experience of using TABS for around 2 years in data-intensive handwriting and document analysis research and evaluation. HUE currently contains 94 C++ components, 7 native data types, 11 custom-built Tcl Tk packages, a novel dynamic user interface, and several demonstration systems implemented as Tcl scripts
