Abstract
A new permanent magnet (PM) excited transverse flux synchronous linear motor will be studied in this paper. This new linear motor can have a high thrust and is based on a special construction. The three-phase windings are arranged on the translator and the permanent magnets are glued on the stator. The thrust depends several machine parameters, such as magnet pole pitch, translator pole pitch and magnet dimensions. This paper focuses on the computation and optimization of the thrust of this linear motor.
