Abstract
Software tools to improve the productivity of the CAD programmer have had a significant impact on the cost effectiveness of providing computer-aided design tools at the Hughes Aircraft Company. The CAD system in use at our Electro-Optical and Data Systems Group is a large, integrated, and mature system. It was designed to improve the productivity of not only the user but also that of those who implement and maintain the system: the CAD programmers. Four areas where these tools have had a beneficial effect will be examined.
