Abstract
The WEP as a security protocol implemented for the wireless networks 802. lib possesses widely faults. Indeed, it is possible to crack the WEP key used with a minimum of resources and/or a minimum of time. The results are different in time and from resources according to the size of the key and its complexity as well as the traffic circulating on the wireless network. If is needed less than 3 hours to crack a simple key of 64 bits, this time is much longer for a key of 128 bits. This paper proposes a new approach based on the use of a VPN IP over IP tunneling. Simulations with OPNET have been carried out in order to evaluate the performance of the solution proposed. Experimental results confirm that, depending on the type of the traffic, the overall security of the networks is improved, with a reasonable decrease in term of performance
