Abstract
In this paper, the analysis of squirrel-cage induction motors are done by applying finite element method (FEM). The magnetic fields generated in the motors are simulated by taking the magnetic hysteresis into account. A vector Preisach hysteresis model, which is applied to both stator and rotor, is merged into a 2D FEM. In addition, time-stepping technique is used. To deal with the Preisach model, a distribution function is determined to fit the magnetic hysteresis of the rotors and stators. The developed program is applied to compute magnetic fields and core losses of two induction motors. According to the comparison between computation and measurement results, the accuracy of the power balance and core loss computation is essentially affected by the choice of distribution function of the Preisach model.
