Abstract :
This study attempted to find the adsorption law of fly ash to COD in domestic sewerage. After the elementary characterization of fly ash was described, the influence of contact time, sorbent concentration, and different pretreatment ways of fly ash, initial COD concentration and temperature on the adsorption process was investigated. Results showed adsorption equilibrium attained within 120 min time. Freundlich adsorption isotherm model fitted the experimental data better than Langmuir model. The treatment efficiency improved if fly ash was pretreated through pickling or washing. The adsorption capacity of fly ash to COD decreased with rise of temperature, which showed that the adsorption process was an exothermal process.
