Abstract :
Computerized technology for control of blood product processing and transfusion is going to become the National Standard for the Russian Federation to prevent human errors in blood transfusion. Bar-code technology allows control over the processing of blood product and blood transfusion. The new standard implemented in the hospital information system ("time-oriented multi-image case history") raises its ability to automatically detect violations of prescriptions and clinical protocols, mistakes of identification, both patient and blood product. The new standard for blood labeling, incorporated in hospital information system provides an effective tool for the detection of medical errors, administration of blood products and medications, observation of their compatibility, identification of complication, and discrepancies between procedures and protocol requirements. This system elevates the level of patient safety and ensures improved quality control.
