Abstract :
Natural-image coding schemes may be classified into four families: pelwise, blockwise, region-based and model-based. The work described falls into the region-based category, but has several unique features. Space-curve primitives rather than surface and contour primitives are located at places of perceptual significance. An adaptive approach to the coding of primitives combines lossy yardstick compression of amplitudes and arithmetic coding of grouped directions. Bivariate natural neighbor interpolation is used for image surface recovery
