Abstract :
The question of how a computer system can be designed to take advantage of GaAs´s fast switching times to avoid limiting system performance by communication-bandwidth and circuit-density factors is addressed. The authors hope to specify a set of design guidelines which are sufficiently flexible that they encompass both GaAs and silicon technologies, as well as any others that may evolve. They present a compiler-writer´s view of how such guidelines can be created, as well as a number of specific guidelines given as examples.<>
