Abstract :
Histogram equalization is performed on the codebook of a tree-structured vector quantizer. Encoding with the resulting codebook performs both compression and contrast enhancement. It is also possible to perform intensity windowing on the codebook, or a combination of intensity windowing and histogram equalization so that these need not be separate post-processing steps
