Abstract :
Using a novel combined algorithm based on an antenna theory model and the Electromagnetic Transients Program, we study how the induced overvoltage on overhead lines due to a nearby lightning stroke is propagated in a distribution network with power electronic devices. It is shown that the presence of surge protection devices can considerably reduce the induced overvoltage, provided that they are placed properly in the network.
