"A Grey-Based Decision-Making Approach to the Supplier Selection Problem"
by Guo-Dong Li, Daisuke Yamaguchi, Masatake Nagai,
in Mathematical and Computer Modelling, Volume 46, Issues 3-4, Elsevier, August 2007, pp 573-581Supplier selection is a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) problem which includes both tangible and intangible factors. Since for the problem, most of the input information is not known precisely, supplier selection becomes more difficult. Grey theory is one of the methods used to study uncertainty, being superior in the mathematical analysis of systems with uncertain information. Here, we propose a simple grey based method based on the concepts of TOPSIS to evaluate and select the best supplier that the weights and ratings of attributes for all alternatives are described by linguistic variables that can be expressed in grey numbers. Through this article, we demonstrate that the approach can be applied to improve the group decision-making to solve the MCDM problem.
