Abstract :
This article aims to examine the strategic role of licenses in software publisherspsila business models. It shows how licenses can be used as a strategic tool to both create value and capture revenues by modifying a given regime of appropriability. It also shows how open source software publishers manage to capture revenues through various business models, according to the type of software they provide.
