Abstract
Several considerations, especially large scale integration of renewables in power systems require new, cheap sources of controllability to be discovered and activated to compensate for the lack of deterministic behavior. This paper describes the EU FP7 ADDRESS proposal for organization of the self-dispatch market for active demand: market clearing is followed by matching to the distribution network constraints, i.e. validation of the cleared products. This approach is more common in the context of European markets. This paper proposes and describes the market organization and clearing with the network constraints for the active demand or mirroring nodal pricing approach, which is more common for North-American markets. Both approaches are compared and analyzed with simulations on a real network model, which was also used in the project for the field tests.
