Abstract :
Modern inverter technologies rely on robust, highly efficient power electronic components. In devices exceeding some kilowatts of output power, the power electronic section usually consists of semiconductors grouped in power modules. Robustness and efficiency as well as longevity of these modules depend, among other influences, on building a sophisticated thermal interface between the module itself and the according heat sink. Nowadays, general purpose greases are usually used as thermal interface material (TIM). The present paper hints out the benefits from newly developed material regarding mounting and handling along with the improvements in respect to thermal qualities and long-term stability.
