Abstract
TiB2/Al2O3 composite coatings were fabricated on a substrate of casting steel HT200 by melting in-situ reaction processing (MIRP) using Al-TiO2-B2O3 elemental powder blends. The phases, microstructure, element distribution of the coating were studied by means of XRD and EPMA. The results show that the coating contains TiB2 and AI2O3 phases. The microstructure has two main existing forms: one is TiB2 particles aggregated area, the other is the intermixed area of TiB2 and AI2O3. In the intermixed area, the granular TiB2 particles are in network distribution along the interface of AI2O3 phases. The Vickers microhardness of TiB2 particles aggregated area ranges from HV2400 to HV3800, and HV1800 to HV3200 for TiB2 and Al2O3 intermixed area, respectively.
