            Abstract :
In this paper, we discuss and demonstrate the benefit of using the direct pumping at 885 nm of concentrated Nd:YAG single crystals and ceramics for construction of efficient continuous-wave (CW) solid-state lasers. By using a proper design of the active material and of the laser resonator, slope efficiencies in absorbed power of 79% is demonstrated under end pumping by Ti:Sapphire laser.
