Abstract
The authors present an algorithm which uses SAR layover and shadows for the automated acquisition of ground control. The control points are then utilized to refine the SAR sensor parameters. Tests are carried out on ERS-1 and X-SAR images of the Austrian Alps. The accuracy of the layover/shadow matching algorithm is assessed by comparison with the results obtained by conventional cross-correlation of real-simulated gray value images
