Abstract :
This paper examines the practicability of detecting a driver´s visual field narrowing, being characterized by an increase of looking straight ahead and a simultaneous decrease in detecting peripheral cues. Empirical results of a field test with 61 participants revealed that visual field narrowing occurred more often in higher demanded participants. There was also a tendency for visual field narrowing for slightly complex or unchallenging situations. The here proposed detection method of visual field narrowing can provide a basis for the development of sophisticated ADAS functions.
