Abstract
In Japan, there are nine regional electric utilities. Their information systems are evolving to satisfy customers´ needs for stable power supply. Also, the information systems are being utilized by the utilities to support and improve efficiency of the office works. The nine utilities are regional monopolies, but they are cooperative and stimulating one another to develop more advanced information systems. The authors summarize current status of the information systems in utilities, and discuss the key concepts to further develop them. They are EUC (end user computing), expert systems, cooperative system development, and so on
