  • Abstract
Describes Narada, an environment in which multi-system; applications can be defined using high-level specifications, without dealing explicitly with the details of task synchronization and data exchange. Once an application is defined, it can be executed automatically, providing location transparency and resolving most of the hardware and software incompatibilities. The paper discusses the task specification language used by Narada and shows how it can be used as an intermediate execution language for multidatabase query languages and to support various extended transaction models. The paper also discusses how programs specified in this language can be executed in a heterogeneous computing environment consisting of autonomous software systems
