Abstract :
Various kinds of flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) controllers, e.g. static VAr compensator (SVC), static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), and variable speed pumped storage (VSPS), were developed and used in the 1980s and 1990s in Japan. An experience of such FACTS development in Japan is presented. The background and necessity of FACTS installations are described. Technical problems in developing the FACTS controller and their solutions are also introduced.
