Abstract :
Designing internal antennas for modern cellular radio handsets and data devices faces presents many challenges including a need to reduce size and cost whilst increasing functionality, as well as the need for extensive customisation of the antenna during the design life of the device. A new approach to this problem is presented by considering the antenna and RF front end together as a radio-antenna unit engineered to make optimum use of balanced RF and antenna structures. A new type of balanced antenna has been developed for this application
