Abstract
The access signaling infrastructure for a B-ISDN (broadband integrated services digital network) which is based on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is considered. A current proposal involves replacing the common signaling-channel approach, as in a narrowband ISDN, by separate dedicated signaling channels per terminal on the subscriber access line in a multipoint environment. To evaluate signaling-configuration implications, some possible network control architectures are considered. This leads to a proposal for dedicated signaling channels per call on the subscriber access line, offering more freedom of network control implementation with minor effort.<>
