Abstract
A comparison study was conducted to characterize the operation principles, component stresses and overall efficiencies of some single-phase active-clamped PFC converters. Based on a general soft switching approach with a resonant active-clamped branch, ZCS-PWM or ZVS-PWM of the main switch can be achieved in a topology with various control strategy, while offering ZCS operation of its auxiliary switch and soft-switching conditions of its diode. In the full range of loads, they can be operated in the constant frequency soft-switching mode. Advantages and disadvantages were identified for each method. Simulation and experiment results of a 3 kW PFC converter are provided
