Abstract :
The Posture Monitor (PM) is a computer-based device designed to support persons who have limited physical control for maintaining appropriate posture due to neuromuscular difficulties. The PM promotes attention given to maintaining proper trunk alignment by individuals seated in wheelchairs, thus providing a seated position that offers greater functionality and enhances physiological factors such as respiration, circulation, and digestion. The PM consists of a microprocessor-controlled monitoring device, a sensor, an earphone, a remote signalling device, and support software. The PM potentially could be an automated means of monitoring and training, proper alignment behavior across a variety of settings and populations
