Abstract :
The Readable Stories Series was specifically designed to help children with hearing impairments and learning disabilities increase their reading comprehension. Based on the Readable English guidelines, the three talking programs aid early (grades 1-2) through intermediate (grade 4) readers in deriving a `main idea´ from a story. Three exciting adventure stories-The Birthday Surprise, The Puppet Show, and The Hidden Toy-provide an integrated approach to improving reading comprehension. Each story focuses on main idea and several of the following comprehension areas: sequence of events, cause and effect, and the concepts of who, what, where, when, why, and how
