Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to efficiently evaluate the BER performance of a single mode, intensity modulated/direct detected lightwave communication link with fiber dispersion compensation. Expensive equipment and considerable resources can be involved in experimental testing of optical communication systems. However, performance evaluation of digital lightwave links by simulation is flexible and cost effective. A semi-analytical approach is implemented as an attempt to avoid the inaccuracies of a purely analytical study, while using computer simulations to derive estimates of statistical distributions that are not analytically tractable. Signal degradation effects of laser sources, optical fiber and photosensitive devices are simulated
