Abstract :
This paper described a practical optical current transformer, which exploited the magnetic potentiometer to sense the measured current and optic-fiber to isolate the signal from high voltage. The test results have proved it has the advantages both of conventional and optical devices. It can be used both in measurement and in protection relays as its well linearity, rapid response, broad dynamic range, wide frequency band, no magnetic saturation, small in volume, light in weight, and safe in insulation.
