Abstract
In studies of performance, sources and systems likely to be encountered in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks can be characterized as being governed by an underlying Markov chain. We have extended the matrix analytic technique to the situation where the service process, as well as the source arrival process is governed by an underlying Markov chain. The results have been applied to the performance analysis of the (ATM) over fading channels
