Abstract :
In this paper, an integrated grooming and regeneration capable optical cross-connect (OXC) architecture has been proposed for wavelength-routed wavelength-division multiplexing optical network having sparsely distributed grooming and regeneration facilities. The OXC is equipped with an integrated grooming-regeneration device which can restore the signal quality of an wavelength channel through regeneration. Moreover, the device can also groom low data-rate connection requests into a high data-rate wavelength channel. In this paper, a dynamic connection request provision technique has also been explored which serves the offered traffic in efficient manner by judiciously utilizing the limited integrated grooming-regeneration facilities.
