            Abstract :
This article will look at a methodology to estimate the capability of position tolerance of geometrical feature patterns according to the ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard. The effects of the complexity, number of geometrical features, of the pattern, the systematic error of the machine, and the process-related variations are included in the calculation of the tolerance´s capability. To identify the distribution functions of the tolerances, an explicit mathematical model was developed based on the three parameters presented herewith. With these distributions, we can create a new method of exploitation for the capability of position tolerances. One study case is presented to illustrate the potential of the developed method.
