The treatment of chromium containing wastewater using chitosan and the modified chitosan as adsorbents was studied. Various factors including solution pH, the dosage of absorbents and initial Cr (VI) concentrations were taken into account and promising results obtained. The results showed that the modified chitosan have a better efficiency on the removal of Cr (VI).an initial solution PH of 1.0 was most favorable for Cr (VI) removal. The removal rate of Cr (VI) is 99.4% under the conditions of the pH=1.0, adsorption time of 30min and quality of modified chitosan of 0.1g. The results suggested that absorption treatment of wastewater containing chromium with modified chitosan satisfied Langmuir isotherm, with physical process as major adsorption.
