Abstract :
Energy efficient reliable communication over unpredictable wireless medium is a major challenge for resource constrained wireless sensor network. The paper quantitatively evaluates the energy level performance of CDMA wireless sensor networks (WSN) using BCH code based hybrid ARQ-type II and compares it with ARQ for successful transmission of a fixed length packet. The effects of several network parameters such as node density, correlation amongst interferers on energy consumption for successful reception of a packet at sink in a single hop transmission are estimated and compared for different error control strategies. Optimal packet length, which maximizes energy efficiency, is also indicated.
