Abstract :
The purpose of this workshop is to introduce Cooperative Learning as an alternative approach to teaching in the Engineering Curriculum. A class is divided into permanent groups for the duration of the course and these become the focus of all student activities. The instructor provides the class with a Lesson Plan which details the objectives and activities for each session. The primary feature of cooperative learning is the interdependence of the students within their groups which leads to the active involvement of all class members. The method has been used in a wide variety of disciplines but only sparingly in Engineering education. There will be two workshops presented at the conference, an introductory session and a more advanced working session.
