Abstract
A code synchronization technique for convolutional codes is presented which can provide improved performance at low signal-to-noise ratios. The algorithm is based on extracting evidence in support of the in-sync or off-sync hypothesis using the metric distribution within the Viterbi decoder. Simulation results are presented for the standard NASA, constraint length 7, rate 1/2 code
