Abstract :
Relationships between managerial needs for information and current and proposed technologies thought to meet those needs are investigated. The result of this appraisal is an infrastructure for designing systems based on what is known about managers instead of what is known about technology. Some of the studies summarized demonstrate the usefulness of novel information technologies such as electronic mail and group decision support systems relative to their manual counterparts. The demand for quick access to high-quality information underscores the advantages information technology has to offer. Recognition of the need for sophisticated scanning and monitoring activities provide the impetus for designing multimedia, document-based DSS and intelligent communication systems
