Abstract :
We discuss the design of two diffractive optical elements that provide fan-out from one processing plane to the next. One element is used in an optical analog-to-digital converter and the other is used to shape the beam of a vertical cavity surface emitting laser. We use scalar-based diffraction theory to design the diffractive element for the analog-to-digital converter and vector-based theory to design the laser beam shaper.
