Abstract :
We report the results of measurements on two novel optical interconnection systems, both of which employ Bessel beams generated by laser diodes and holographic optical elements (HOEs). One system delivers a signal to many circuit boards simultaneously, while the other links different chips lying on the same board. A new HOE was fabricated for use in these two interconnection schemes which produces a beam with a central spot diameter of 100 μm and a propagation range of 17 cm. The HOEs are binary phase elements which have been fabricated as transmission elements in fused silica
