Abstract :
Stabilizing torsional oscillations on a two generating unit of a nuclear power plant is investigated in this paper. This two-machine system is connected to an infinite bus through two parallel transmission lines. It is considered to damp torsional oscillations of both turbogenerator shafts using two different mechanical filters. The designs and operation modes of the dynamic mechanical filters are described. The effectiveness of these filters is evaluated by using transient simulations. The designs for the mechanical filters installed on the shaft couplings of turbine mechanical systems are also presented in this paper
